The Albuquerque Police Department and former Chief Ray Schultz are no longer defendants in a lawsuit stemming from a deadly crash with an officer.

Ashley Browder was killed last year at Paseo and Eagle Ranch in a crash with off-duty APD Sgt. Adam Casaus.

Casaus is charged with vehicular homicide and is no longer with APD.

A civil suit targeted Casaus, the city, APD and Schultz. But the city argued that naming Schultz in his capacity as chief is not necessary, because his employer, the city, is and was responsible for him.
