Albuquerque police are expected to release more information on Friday about a deadly standoff in the foothills.

On Sunday, police received calls about a suspicious man near Copper and Tramway.

Police said the man was camping illegally and threatened officers with a knife.

APD Chief Gorden Eden said "less-than-lethal" force was used before a shot was fired by the officers.

The man later died at UNM Hospital.

The officers involved in the incident, Dominique Perez and Keith Sandy, have been placed on leave. APD spokeswoman Tasia Martinez said both officers fired their weapons during Sunday's incident.

However, it is unclear at this time which officer fired lethal force.

APD said they planned to release new information at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
