A police dog, who was shot multiple times in a SWAT standoff, was released from the veterinary emergency center on Saturday.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department, K-9 handler Ken Ronzone was by police dog Rico’s side the entire.

Rico was shot early Friday morning during a SWAT standoff at a towing company on San Pedro.

Police say a robbery suspect was barricaded inside the business and started firing when the K-9 unit was deployed.

They say Rico was struck by the suspect three times and believe the suspect shot and killed himself.

APD says they did not use their weapons in the incident and there are no other suspects in the case.

The dog is at home recuperating and relaxing.

There is no word if Rico will be able to continue his work with police.
