A robbery suspect was arrested in Albuquerque, and how that happened is absolutely crazy.
Police say the robber held up a clerk at the Family Dollar store on Menaul near Juan Tabo Sunday. Tony Tenorio showed up a short time later to take his wife, the clerk who was robbed, to lunch. She was talking to police and had just enough time to show her husband surveillance video of the suspect.
With their lunch plans ruined, Tony decided to leave and got on a city bus. That's when the story gets good.
"I looked behind me and he was about four seats behind me, I said that's the guy," Tenorio said.
Yes, in a city of more than a half-million people, the man accused of holding up Tenorio's wife is sitting on the same city bus with him.
"I know it was the guy that did the robbery just two or three hours ago, you know," Tenorio said.
Tony, whose nickname is "Boney" because he was so skinny as a kid, now ripples with muscles. He had a strong hankering to put those muscles to work.
"I want to grab this guy and I want to, you know, strangle him but I said, 'I'm just gonna wait, let the police take care of him, they'll do that, you know. I'll just keep cool but at the same time my adrenaline… I just wanted to do something to him," Tenorio said.
Tony played it smart. When 40-year-old Aaron McDaniel got off the bus, so did he.
"So I follow him and I said, 'Where are you going?' And he says, 'I'm going to the casino.'"
The Downs Casino. Police say McDaniel stole about $100 from the Family Dollar store. When he got to the casino, Tenorio was right behind him. He flagged down a police officer, and McDaniel was arrested a short time later.
"That felt real good. I was like, aw, man they got him, he won't be robbing anybody else anymore," Tenorio said.
McDaniel is currently locked up, charged with robbery and tampering with evidence.
