A crash involving two semis closed down a portion of I-40 on Thursday morning.

According to New Mexico State Police, a tractor trailer carrying water was traveling westbound at a slow rate of speed. A second semi then rearended the tractor trailer, causing all of the water to leak out.

The impact caused the cab of the second semi to disconnect from the frame, coming to a rest on its driver's side. The driver was able to crawl out of the overturned cab and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi carrying water was not injured.

Charges are pending further investigation of the crash.

I-40 at 98th Street was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
