It’s a case of animal cruelty that has one New Mexico neighborhood on edge.
A stranger with a knife attacks a dog right in someone’s front yard.
Police think it was a random attack.
Kathryn Horton says she was sitting in her backyard having a relaxing evening when someone came in her front yard with a knife.
Horton says the knife-wielding intruder stabbed her dog LeAnn.
“They look like dagger wounds, like somebody had a big dagger," said Horton. “She was crying, she cried all night.”
Horton says she has no idea who did it or why.
“If he had a knife, maybe he was coming back here to stab one of us, I don't know," said Horton. “Why would they stab her? She don't bother nobody."
Now neighbors are fearing for their safety.
"I better watch out for my dogs," said Darlene Nunez.
Nunez has four dogs, three of them are puppies that are only three weeks old.
“They could stab us," said Nunez.
"I feel fear for our lives because what if he would have come and stabbed one of us," said Horton.
LeAnn’s wounds are healing and Horton is hoping her dog will make a full recovery.
