A Farmington coach won't be getting his contract renewed.
The school district says the wrestling coach violated several rules.
But some parents say the coach plays an important role in their kids' lives and needs to stay.
Angela Abeyta says her son changed when he got into wrestling.
“Watching him grow up and seeing him, especially these past couple of years, it’s amazing to see what a strong and smart wrestler.”
She says that is all because of a good example set by her son's wrestling coach, Levi Stout.
She says he looks up to Coach Stout.
But despite how some parents and students feel about the award winning coach, officials from Piedra Vista High School have decided to not renew his contract as a wrestling coach.
Abeyta is, “Very frustrated. I'm saddened!”
The school district cites several issues including allowing ineligible students to wrestle in a tournament.
The district says during a trip, Stout had students travel in vehicles that were not approved by the school.
The district also had questions about the coach's recruiting.
But parents are fighting the loss of their Coach.
George Archuleta said. “He is a loved coach and obviously supported.”
Right now a petition on Change.org has almost 1,500 signatures.
The petition is directed at the superintendent of schools and school board president.
Archuleta said, “Hopefully she will consider it.”
“There is nothing he that would not allow him to be back in the system and allow him to continue to coach,” said Abeyta.
