ALBUQUERQUE -- Chief of Corrections Ramon Rustin has announced his resignation, effective April 7.

According to a news release from Bernalillo County, Rustin says he will now take time to meet personal and family obligations.

"I would like to thank the County Commission and County Manager Tom Zdunek for this great opportunity," he said. "I would also like to thank my staff for their loyalty and commitment to me. I've been honored to serve in this capacity for over three years and I wish everyone at MDC well."

Rustin began working as chief of corrections at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center in 2011. Before joining Bernalillo County, Rustin served as warden of a correctional facility in Allegheny County, Penn.
