No, it's no April Fools prank. The last weekend of skiing in southwestern Colorado is in April this year.
“We had a little snow this week and conditions are perfect,” said Bill Gothard.
Gothard wanted to get a few runs in today.
“I had to make some phone calls before I could skip out on work.” He laughed.
For Gothard, it was a can't-miss opportunity, “The last hurrah”
Durango Mountain Resort told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that last weekend was to be the last chance to ski for the season, but an extra foot of snow changed that.
“We try to extend the season if mother nature permits, so depending on what she does. If she cooperates we will extend the season,” said Kim Oyler of Durango Mountain Resort
Plenty took advantage of one more chance.
“A lot of people came up to make a couple more turns before the end of the season this year,” said Oyler.
Even Oyler wanted to get in on the action.
“I would love to skip work today and get on the slopes.”
For those that did, like Gothard, it was totally worth it.
“This is the last chance you can work next week, they aren't going to have the mountain open.”
