Are you happy with your job? A new study shows some interesting answers to that question.

New Mexico is near the bottom of the list when it comes to the work environment.

Researchers believe it comes down to fewer people doing more work in order to get the job done.

According to the Gallup Healthways Wellbeing Index, New Mexico was ranked 48th when it comes to the work environment.

The study's questions to employees gauged atmosphere and relationships in the workplace.

The study found nationwide, work environment hit an all-time monthly low in 2009 and has never fully recovered. New Mexico was no exception.

From January to January- Albuquerque alone lost more than 4,000 jobs, the highest in the country.

“It was hard I know they really dug-in and kept this business afloat,” said Lynn Kaufman, a sales manager at TEMA furniture store felt the effects of the recession first hand.

She was let go from the store back in 2008, but was rehired after an upswing in sales.

“I feel like I’m back home,” she said.

Things at her job are getting better, but she says she remembers what it was like not too long ago, employees overworked, even store owners were stretched thin.

“They (owners) worked long hours and stayed the course,” she said.

It’s that kind of stressed work environment that contributes to New Mexico’s low ranking.

Kaufman says now TEMA hired six more people within the last two months.

“You know it’s paid off!” she said, “This is a great place to work.”

She hopes that this local furniture store will take the lead in a bounce back the whole state has been waiting for.
