The attorney who is representing James Boyd's family announced plans to memorialize and bury James Boyd, the man who was fatally shot in the foothills by the Albuquerque Police Department.

Attorney Shannon Kennedy told KOB Eyewitness News 4 the family wishes for the memorialization to be dignified and peaceful.

Boyd's death has sparked outrage in the Albuquerque community and beyond.  Kennedy and other community leaders have characterized Boyd's death as two APD officers murdering James Boyd.

Video released by APD shows officers firing bullets and bean bags at Boyd as well as deploying a taser and a K9 unit.  The video shows the officers continuing to fire at Boyd, even though he is laying down and gave verbal consent that he would follow their instructions.  There is now a federal criminal investigation into the actions of the officers involved.

The public is invited to attend.
