The Albuquerque police union president is speaking out about APD's new deputy chief, Robert Huntsman.

After Tuesday's announcement, union president Stephanie Lopez said she is a bit disappointed because of the fact that Huntsman used to be in the department. She said there are plenty of qualified people currently in the department.

But Lopez said she's glad it's someone that knows the department in and out and knows who the officers are. Lopez also hopes Huntsman will be fair and consistent–something she hasn't seen in the department in a while.

"I would hope that he remembers what it was like to be a field officer when he's making these decisions and he's making fair, consistent decisions when it comes to the discipline of officers," Lopez said.
