It's a New Mexico gem, a staple, a must have -- we're talking green chile.

"There's nothing else like it," said Jim O'Brien with Crazy Good Specialty Foods. O'Brien used to live in New Mexico and he can't tell you enough, he became obsessed with all things green chile. So, of course, he thought, why not pair the ultimate snack, potato chips, with a New Mexican favorite?

"We stumbled across this Frito Lay kind of submit your own flavor to Frito Lay," added O'Brien.

O'Brien submitted the three ingredients to his Crazy Good Green Chile Dust, which is Hatch green chile, garlic and sea salt. O'Brien bottles and sells it across the country.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 took to the streets and asked New Mexicans what they thought of green chile potato chips.

Now we will be honest. They didn't taste as good as the ones by O'Brien but they were close and most people liked them.

Frito Lay recently posted all the submitted flavors on their website, where people voted for their favorite.

"We were getting an overwhelming number of votes for it. I know it would be a home run. It would be great for New Mexico," said O'Brien.

Voting closed on Sunday. The winner will be announced this summer.
