On Monday, road crews in Santa Fe will begin a 130-day project aimed at improving the way students get to school.

The project is part of the federal program called "Safe Routes to School," which encourages students to walk and bike to school. Improvements include better sidewalks, crosswalks and medians.

Crews will work near Sweeney Elementary School on Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Then, they will move to Aspen Elementary School for the rest of the week.
