The woman accused of badly beating a toddler for throwing a temper tantrum appeared in court for arraignment on Tuesday.
Ashley Montano is charged with child abuse and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury. She is being held on a $100,000 bond.
On Sunday, Montano called 911 and said the 2-year-old girl was unresponsive after falling off a bed.
When police arrived at the home near Sage and 86th, they noticed bruises on the child's face. Doctors later found bleeding in her brain and had to perform an emergency surgery.
The child remains at UNM Hospital in guarded condition.
According to the criminal complaint, police said Montano admitted to repeatedly hitting and throwing the little girl to the floor for having a temper tantrum.
Montano was reportedly watching the child because her mother is in jail on murder charges.
CYFD is investigating the incident.
