The ski season is officially over now in New Mexico, but operations are still ongoing at Sandia Peak Ski Area as it gets ready for the upcoming summer season.

Brian Coon, the operations manager at Sandia Peak Ski Area, says that the summer season accounts for one percent of the resort's total business, with activities like hiking, scenic chair-lift rides, and extreme sports like mountain biking

Summer operations will begin on the 4th of July. However, if there is a big fire danger, all bets are off. It happened last year when the Forest Service closed the area for 6 weekends.

Sandia is also waiting on possibly installing zip lines and  a "mountain coaster" which you can already ride at some resorts in the US. None yet here.

Coon says that everyone in the industry right now is waiting to see and working with the Forest Service to see where it's all going to shake out on mountain coasting.

Sandia Peak will also be open throughout Balloon Fiesta, which begins Saturday, October 4th.
