A Santa Fe police officer has resigned after being accused of using excessive force while arresting a taxi driver.

Police told the Santa Fe New Mexican that Jose Gutierrez resigned last week. He did not give a reason for his resignation.

The 40-year-old cab driver claims Gutierrez gave her a black eye by shoving her face into the ground.

Santa Fe police are conducting an internal review.
