ALBUQUERQUE -- Sandia National Laboratories plans to conduct an explosive test on Thursday afternoon in a test field on Kirtland Air Force Base.

Between 3:30-5 p.m., Sandia officials say some Albuquerque residents could hear a small explosion associated with the experiment. Some black smoke might be visible above Kirtland Air Force Base for a short time following the test.

All hazards associated with the test are controlled, according to a news release. The test is being conducted in accordance with permits for Sandia's test facilities and in compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
