State trying to lure Sriracha maker to move here

New Mexico's Economic Development Department is trying to convince a popular hot sauce maker to move their factory here.

Huy Fong Foods, creators of Sriracha sauce, is considering moving their facility due to ongoing complaints about a spicy odor coming from the factory.

In an article published in the Los Angles Times, owner David Tran stressed he has not decided to move from their current location of Irwindale, CA. but is exploring his options.

Angela Heisel, spokesperson for Economic Development, says New Mexico would be a good place for the plant.

According to Heisel, the state believes the single sales factor passed last year is a major incentive. Anything sold out of state gives the manufacturer the option to not pay a corporate income tax on those products.

Tran tells the Times he'll have to find a new pepper grower if he moves, as well as replace or relocate up to 200 employees.
