Officer-involved shooting at Central and Tingley

Albuquerque police confirm they are assisting U.S. Marshals at an officer-involved shooting in the bosque parking lot at Central and Tingley.

According to police, U.S. Marshals were trying to apprehend a person on a fugitive warrant and shots were fired. It is not known at this time who fired the shots.

The suspect has been identified as Rufus Phelps. Phelps headed west on Central in a gold Chevrolet Cavalier, NM license plate MFT-689. It is not known if Phelps is armed but is considered to be dangerous. Phelps may also be injured and seeking medical assistance. Phelps is 6'2", 215 pounds and has blonde hair and hazel eyes.

The bosque is reported to still be open.

U.S. Marshals have requested the APD's mobile crime lab and it is on the scene. It is unknown as to why they requested the lab.
