a busy Albuquerque street became the scene of another deadly shooting Monday morning as an APD officer shot and killed a 19-year-old woman accused of stealing a car.
Police said an officer was chasing the woman on foot near Wyoming and Zuni before six Monday morning when she turned around and pointed a handgun at close range. That's when the officer fired and killed her.
By noontime, protestors were on the scene - convinced that the shooting was unjustified, but not everyone in the immediate vicinity was ready to agree with that and not ready to agree that being a woman had anything to do with it.
Neighbors admit it's a tough part of town, but seemed stunned that the shooting happened so close to an extrememly busy intersection right before businesses opened on the morning after Easter.
This is the first shooting by APD since the Department of Justice came in ten days ago. In that time, marshals working for the DOJ have shot at two men, wounding one.
