Motorists between Las Cruces, N.M., and the Arizona border resumed their travels tonight after the New Mexico State Police reopened Interstate 10 in both directions.

Sgt. Damyan Brown with the New Mexico State Police advised that I-10 reopened at approximately 8:30 p.m. after being closed for most of the day due to heavy blowing dust and strong winds in the area.

The extreme weather conditions were the reason for the low visibility experienced by drivers who were forced to exit the highway for their own safety.
