There's a lot more going on than just addition and subtraction in Mr. Green's math class.

“We just want to help out this family,” Said Cody Green.

A family that none of his students have ever met.

“In order to be a good person and change someone I don't think you ever have to meet them,” said Faith Hathenbruck, a senior at Piedra Vista High School.

Green is a teacher at Piedra Vista High School.

He and his students are working to help a young man in Silver City win a wheelchair van.

“I have never had the opportunity to change just one individual life,” said Hathenbruck.

Dallin White is a 5-year-old that was born three months premature and has cerebral palsy. His insurance covers a electric wheelchair, but not a wheelchair van. The contest to win a mobility van is a part of national mobility awareness month. More than 1,000 people have entered the contest. There will be four vans given to the “Local Heroes” with the most votes on May 9.

“Just about all my students, every single day they are all voting for Dallin making sure they have that chance, this is something we can do,” green told KOB eyewitness News Four Monday after school.

The students have created a 'Vote for Dallin’ Twitter and even a video on YouTube so others will know why they should vote for Dallin.

“I think Dallin should win because he is innocent and young and didn't bring this on himself, but he has friends in good places,” said Hathenbruck.
