The wife of a man who was badly injured in a crash last month claims she was fired from her job when she took a day off to care for him.
Raquel Ibarra said she tried to give her boss at Maintenance Service Systems, Inc., a doctor’s note excusing her absence but was still let go, a day after her husband was first hospitalized.
Her husband, Julio, suffered third degree burns to his legs on April 16th, when the cement truck he was driving was involved in a crash with a semi-truck on I-40 near Tijeras.
The man who pulled him out of the burning wreckage is now fighting for his wife to get her job back.
“I went to see if there was anybody hurt or walking around and I looked up and saw Mr. Ibarra and he was trapped inside the cab of the vehicle on fire,” said Greg Holmes, who pulled Julio Ibarra out of the burning vehicle.
He found out Raquel lost her job when he visited the couple in the hospital. He said the family is now left with no source of income.
“Maybe someone can offer her a new job,” he said. “She's a wonderful person and in the short time I've known this family, they are hard working and they all love each other. I just want the best for them and their family.”
KOB Eyewitness News 4 made multiple attempts to reach the manager of Maintenance Service Systems, Inc. on Tuesday, but we have yet to receive a response.
