Saving money, one coupon at a time. Moms across the country are raving about "couponing."
But one mom in Albuquerque hopes her couponing skills can make a difference in the community.
"Extreme couponer, I guess is the term," Felicity Horowitz said.
For months now, Horowitz has been clipping and using coupons, saving her family hundreds of dollars.
Horowitz will admit that she once went a bit overboard with the coupons.
"I'm looking in my garage like, 'I have 4 years' worth of laundry detergent and probably should do something about it,'" she said.
So Horowitz started "Couponing for a Cause," a local group that clips coupons, shops and donates it all to charities.
This month, the group donated boxes filled with canned foods, cereals, blankets… You name it. Without coupons, the supplies would have cost around $856. But with coupons, the total came out to about $85.
This month's donations will feed about five families at the Albuquerque Rescue Mission.
"It took me hours to come down from my excitement. I was like, 'Oh my god, this is so fun. This is so awesome.' You know, just being able to do it got a good cause," Horowitz said.
This summer, the group plans on collecting coupons to buy school supplies.
