Pedestrian killed in Santa Fe hit-and-run

SANTA FE – Santa Fe police are searching for leads after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash late Sunday.

According to police, an unidentified man was hit and killed by a vehicle while crossing Saint Francis Drive in the northbound lanes between Sawmill and Zia Roads.

The pedestrian is believed to be a transient in his mid-30s. He has a tribal-looking sun tattoo on his left middle finger and extensive tattoos on his left arm. He was wearing black pants, black shirt, black leather jacket, a black hat and brown shoes.

Police said the victim was not using a crosswalk.

Officers believe the suspect vehicle is a 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The SUV is believed to have damage to the front driver's side area, including a broken headlight.

The Office of the Medical Investigator is conducting an autopsy in attempts to identify the man. 

Anyone who may know who the victim is, may have witnessed the accident or has any leads on the suspect vehicle is asked to call police at (505)-428-3710.

The suspect may face charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid, amongst others.
