An El Paso hospital has reached a settlement with a Lovington, New Mexico, woman who claims she was forced to undergo unnecessary body cavity searches.

Border agents suspected the woman of drug smuggling as she crossed into El Paso from Juarez.

Her lawyer from the New Mexico Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union told KOB 4 On Your Side that she was strip searched. When agents didn't find anything, they took her to University Medical Center in El Paso, where she said medical staff took an X-ray and searched her body cavities for drugs but didn't find anything.

The ACLU claims the federal agents never secured a search warrant before probing or touching the woman.

Attorneys have not released the terms of the settlement.
