Drivers heading between Albuquerque and Bernalillo will soon be able to go a little faster. The speed limit is about to increase to 75 miles per hour, up from 70 mph.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation looked at a number of different factors--including traffic volume--and found it was safe to increase the speed limit. In fact, their study found that on average, drivers go about 77 miles per hour along the stretch.
Starting Monday, crews will start putting up the new speed limit signs so that drivers are aware of the change. But keep in mind, until those signs are up, the speed limit will remain at 70.
