A state police officer caught on camera holding a tow truck driver in a chokehold has resigned.

The tow truck driver's passenger took a video of the incident earlier this month. In the video, officer Charles Vernier refuses to let go of the man.

The tow truck driver was trying to repossess Vernier's vehicle.

Los Lunas police ended up arresting Vernier on charges of aggravated battery and resisting arrest.

In his resignation letter dated Monday, Vernier says he appreciated the opportunity to serve with the department, but due to his current situation, has decided to resign to restore his mental health.
