ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - A 20-year-veteran of the New Mexico Game and Fish Department has been tapped to serve as the agency's director.

The Game Commission chose Alexandra Sandoval during its meeting Thursday in Albuquerque. Sandoval was among four finalists being considered for the position.

Sandoval is currently the agency's chief financial officer and head of its administrative services division. She began her career with the department as a game warden in Roswell and Clayton.

Sandoval will be the second woman in the department's 101-year history to serve as director. She will oversee more than 300 employees and an annual budget of $38 million.

The other finalists were Ted Koch of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Nevada, Brian Wakeling of the Arizona Game and Fish Department and Mathew Wunder, an employee of the New Mexico game agency.
