At least 40 people were displaced by an apartment fire in southeast Albuquerque on Sunday night.

Fire crews were dispatched to 425 Western Skies SE around 9:30 p.m. Firefighters at the scene reported heavy smoke and flames coming from an apartment unit on the third floor.

Crews did not locate anyone inside the burning apartment, which was later determined to be vacant.

No injuries were reported, but AFD called the Red Cross to help the people who were forced from their homes due to smoke and fire damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
