The New Mexico Department of Transportation says construction is moving along on schedule for the Paseo del Norte/I-25 Interchange project.

In about a week, the new San Antonio off-ramp--coming off I-25 North--will open.

On Tuesday, construction crews were working on putting up light poles near the off-ramp which goes over the new San Mateo on-ramp. The on-ramp is set to open in about two weeks.

"What we did is we took the ramp and moved it south so that we would have a longer merge distance not so close to San Antonio. Then, we're taking the new on-ramp from San Mateo and the frontage road will go underneath it and come onto I-25. All that has moved away from Paseo," Gallegos said.

The new off-ramp will be 1,800 feet south of the ramp drivers are using now. That ramp will be closed once the new San Antonio off-ramp opens.

NMDOT hopes to have the entire construction project done and open by December.
