The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority Board voted Wednesday in favor of raising the water rates later this summer, despite conservation efforts done by residents.

Locals did their part and conserved 2.5 billion gallons of water last year. That added up to a $9 million dollar shortfall for the Water Authority, and you will help make up the difference.

The water price hike is meant to upgrade water projects and renovate the current infrastructure.

Beginning July 1, expect to see your water bill go up by 8 percent. For example, if you paid $40 per month on your water bill, you can now be expected to pay $43 per month.
