New Mexico Game and Fish officials tranquilized and captured a young male bear spotted in Bernalillo on Thursday.

According to Game and Fish spokesman Ross Morgan, the first reports of the bear came in around 6 a.m. The bear was seen running around the drains and ditches along the Bosque.

Bernalillo Middle School was placed on lockdown due to the sighting.

The bear eventually ran up a Cottonwood Tree, where officials darted the animal.

The 110-pound bear will be released back into the wild in the Jemez Mountains.
