New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was in Roswell Thursday campaigning for Governor Susana Martinez’s re-election.

It was clear Christie thinks very highly of Martinez.

“When I was running for re-election last year, there was only one other governor in the country that I asked to come and campaign with me and it was Governor Martinez,” said Christie.

Governor Chris Christie says Governor Susana Martinez is one of his best friends.

“One of my best friends in the entire Republican Governors Association, Governor Martinez and I have been friends for four years," said Christie.

He says they share the same values, the same approach to solving problems.

“While there are lots of people I could have asked, the only one that I did was Governor Martinez,” said Christie.  “So we're friends, so for me to come out here is a personal pleasure and not just a political trip."

The feeling is mutual.

"I admire him, I admire how frank he is, how honest he is,” said Martinez.  “How he says it like it is and he doesn't do all of that political speak you know he says what people need to hear and then he follows up with it."

It’s a partnership that started when the two governors were prosecutors.

Christie visited Roswell in 2010 when she first ran for governor.

Martinez re-paid the favor when she campaigned for Christie last November in New Jersey.

As for the buzz about a presidential run together in 2016..

“Who knows, you never know what life is going to bring you,” said Christie. “But what I do know is that we've been partners now for 3.5 years.  Bringing reforms to states as Republican Governors that aren't used to this kind of thing.  So, we'll continue to be partners no matter what our future winds up holding for either one of us, and we're good friends."

There are five democrats running for the chance to take on Governor Martinez in November.

They are state Attorney General Gary King, businessman Alan Webber, former Lieutenant Governor candidate Lawrence Rael, and State Senators Howie Morales and Linda Lopez.

The primary election is Tuesday.
