New Mexico State Police have booked and charged a Grants high School teacher. Jacob Jaurique is accused of criminal contact with two teen girls, and having sex with another. That has people in Grant’s questioning how an un-licensed school employee could be allowed to prey on students.
Jaurique taught metal and welding class at Grants High School. New Mexico State Police say that between September and November of the 2013-2014 school year a student came forward with her parents about being inappropriately touched by Jaurique.
When state police started investigating, they discovered it didn’t stop there according to Lieutenant Emmanuel Gutierrez, "Through the course of the investigation, I don't have the specifics as to how the other victims came forward, but they did. So we we're able to get two others that were subject to this individuals advances."
State police say a second girl came forward and told them about Jaurique touching her. But it’s what the third girl- an 18-year-old accuses Jaurique of that is most shocking. The criminal complaint claimed Jaurique admitted to having sex with that student in the metal shop classroom.
Kaitlyn Brantley just graduated from Grant high School and she says Jaurique had a reputation. "He was a creep. He would try and talk them. He was very flirtatious. He always wanted to have girls in his classroom. He'd walk around and look for them. He'd touch them."
We went by Jaurique’s known address on the criminal complaint and with a private property sign like “Violators will be prosecuted or shot.” We declined to knock on the door.
We also learned that Jaurique was the Assistant Wrestling Coach at Grants high School. We reached out to the school district to explain why Jaurique was working without a license. We didn’t get a response.
Agents said Jaurique admitted to the allegations against him when they interviewed him on Wednesday. He was taken into custody without incident in Milan, New Mexico.
Jaurique is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and criminal sexual penetration of a minor.
