Hundreds and hundreds of people gathered Sunday to remember the three teens who died in a plane crash near Silver City on May 23.

The memorial for Ella Kirk, Michael Mahl and Ella Myers took place at 2 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center on the Western New Mexico University campus in Silver City. The auditorium was packed, as there was standing room only to celebrate the lives of the three teens.

Ella had just finished a film that won her a coveted seat at a summer arts program in Chicago. Michael was getting ready to lead his classmates at Aldo Leopold as student body president. Ella Kirk was a songwriter. These three friends were incredibly close.

Jennifer Douglass, Ella's mother, said the teens were inseparable and each brought their true self to the table. Their love of the environment brought them together.

When they died, they were surveying the signal fire burn scar near Silver City.
