David Foster celebrated a six-month anniversary on Tuesday.
"I'm alive today, that's the only reason," he said.
In January, Foster was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.
Foster says the care he received was second to none: Great care and affordable.
Recently, the hospital was recognized for working to keep costs down.
"Well that is a great honor to have simply because we were able to be recognized as the most affordable hospital," said San Juan Regional Medical Center CEO Rick Wallace.
According to NerdWallet.com, San Juan Regional Medical Center is the most affordable hospital in New Mexico. The website ranked 32 hospitals in the state based on 100 most common treatments.
Wallace says the hospital has worked hard for the ranking.
"The big thing is that we control our cost," he explained. "San Juan Regional is a community owned, community lead organization I think the expectations of the local board and the local community expects out of us, gives us the competitive advantage."
Foster says he was happy with the cost of his hospital stay, but what he's most grateful for was the care.
"I know that I am incredibly lucky to have our hospital, but as a community I think we have a very top notch hospital," he said.
The rest of the top 5 most affordable hospitals in New Mexico are:
2. Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center—Santa Fe
3. Presbyterian Hospital—Albuquerque
4. Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center—Alamogordo
5. Mountain View Regional Medical Center—Las Cruces
