Three teenagers have been indicted in the rape of a Pojoaque High School student near Española.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Española police received a report on April 27 of a young woman bleeding severely on the side of McCurdy Road. The teen was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery for her injuries.
Several witnesses told officers that the teen and the alleged suspects had been drinking together in one of the suspect's room.
One suspect told police the young woman hadn't been in the room with him and Kayla Coriz, 19, whom he identified as his girlfriend. The suspect said neither him nor Coriz knew the woman.
Coriz, who was interviewed separately, told the police the victim had been her friend since fifth grade and that the teens were all in the room together.
All three defendants are charged with criminal sexual penetration, causing great bodily harm or mental anguish, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit criminal sexual penetration and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
A family member said the victim has since been released and is recovering.
