Military medals stolen from a World War II veteran have now been found.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 reported two weeks ago that the framed service medals were stolen during a break-in at Roy Hopper's Albuquerque home.
Hopper was in the hospital at the time.
According to APD, someone walked into a business Monday and tried to sell the nine medals.
An off-duty officer happened to walk in, and the suspect fled, leaving the medals behind.
U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich was working to replace Hopper's medals. Heinrich provided the following statement to KOB Tuesday evening:
"This is great news. Mr. Hopper courageously served our country with distinction and valor, and his medals are a symbol of that service and our nation's gratitude. I'm grareful to the community, local law enforcement, and the media for coming together to help Mr. Hopper retrieve his medals."
