The grip of the state's drought is cropping up again in the form of fireworks bans across the state. Bernalillo County commissioners voted to ban certain fireworks in the county outside Albuquerque city limits.
The plan includes bottle rockets, other aerials and spinners. Large-scale fireworks displays like the ones seen on the fourth of July are also banned. The Bernalillo County Fire Department says that might be disappointing but there's good reason. They have a large spread, so they can hit a lot more areas.
The ban is effective right now and extends to July 10. Fireworks that stay on the ground are permitted.
Santa Fe County also imposed a fireworks ban Tuesday. County commissioners approved the measure that bans all fireworks that go up into the air along with ground audible devices like firecrackers. The ban applies to all unincorporated areas.
