MELROSE, N.M. -- The Curry County Sheriff's Office reports that at this time, no charges will be filed against a Melrose Public Schools contract coach accused of exchanging sexually explicit text messages with a 15-year-old student.
The sheriff's office said that although investigators found circumstantial evidence that supports the allegations, there was not enough necessary evidence to prosecute the coach. The alleged victim denied the allegations against the coach and refused to cooperate with the investigation. The coach, who has since resigned, also denied the allegations.
Authorities received reports about the alleged inappropriate relationship in February.
During the course of the investigation, allegations were brought forth concerning an inappropriate relationship between another contract coach and a student. The coach, 28-year-old Allison Draper, had terminated her employment with the Melrose Schools in December 2013.
On Feb. 18, 2014, sheriff's investigators arrested Draper and charged her with one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and five counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.
