A Santa Fe family is reunited with their nine-year-old daughter after she went missing for nearly 24 hours. The parents of the little girl, Ida Rothschild, told authorities they were on a family camping trip in California when she slipped out of their sight and they couldn’t find her.
More than a hundred officers and volunteers packed Samuel P. Taylor State Park in California Friday night and Saturday morning searching for the nine year old with brown hair dressed in a pink flowered dress. Ida Rothschild went missing around noon Friday and her parents called for help.
"Their daughter was running around the campsite, even playing with other children who were here at the campground today, and at one point they realized she was no longer within their sight --- about 30 minutes had transpired --- and at that point, that's when they began searching for their daughter,” Marin County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Doug Pittman said.
Authorities had no reason to believe there was foul play involved, but were worried by the size of the state park, a creek that ran through it and chilly temperatures overnight. Friday morning, a couple out mountain biking found Ida and brought her safely to her parents.
A reunion photo shows Rothschild happy and safe after a night that brought people together hoping to make that moment happen.
