The astronaut that faced a near-death situation hundreds of miles above earth was in Albuquerque Saturday to share his "out of this world" experiences.

You may remember Luca Parmitano, the Italian astronaut who came close to drowning in space after more than a liter of water leaked into his helmet.

Almost one year after the incident he spoke about his adventures at the New Mexico museum of natural history and science.

He says that one thing he learned from that experience is that fear could be used as a tool if you don't allow yourself to panic.

"The one thing that goes through your head instead of focusing on the problem, you focus on the solution and think of what the next steps are in order to save your life"

Parmitano spent 6 months in the international space station.

NASA officials say they still don't know what caused the water to leak.
