Across the state, New Mexicans are stepping up, asking to donate before they have been asked. Even though they are 70 miles from the fire, Farmington residents are providing relief.

“Brought some water, cases of water toilet paper, food soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste,” said Kelli Dallas.

Dallas wants to help.

She brought donations to Pinion Hills Community Church in Farmington.

The trailer, currently parked in front of the church, will head to Sheep Springs chapter house tomorrow, by then it will hopefully be full.

“Just wanted to help.”

And Dallas isn't alone.

“Cause that’s what you are supposed to do, you are supposed to help the community.”

The Farmington community is coming together to get food, water and toiletries to people who have been forced out of their homes by the Assayii Lake Fire.

San Juan College is also collecting donations for the Naschitti chapter house.

“We are getting a really great response  had a lot of people dropping stuff off and we are looking forward to tomorrow we have secured a large moving van and we hope to fill that whole van tomorrow,” said John Tohtsoni Jr.

“The community has always been really good to San Juan College and so this is a way for the college to give back to the community and the county.”

Neighbors, pulling together to help neighbors.

“I know that if I was in that same situation I know they would come to my aid too,” said Joanne Smith.
