PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - An inmate who escaped through the roof of the Roosevelt County jail a year ago has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office says 21-year-old Stephen Phillips received the sentence Wednesday for the escape as well as other felony charges.

Phillips and fellow inmate Ruben Lozano fled the prison in June 2013 through an air conditioning vent.

Authorities say Phillips injured his leg jumping off the roof and was captured at a nearby residence about an hour later.

Phillips at the time was being held on auto burglary charges that he committed in 2012.
