ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque firefighters were able to save a man and his dog from a burning apartment building.

Fire Capt. Jason Garcia says crews were called to a two-story apartment building early Friday morning on Alvarado Dr.

Garcia says smoke was spotted coming from a second-floor unit.

Crews found a man, who was sleeping, and the dog.

The man has been hospitalized in stable condition after being treated for smoke inhalation.  The dog was uninjured and will temporarily remain the care of animal control.

Two other apartments sustained minor smoke damage.

Garcia says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
