New fire restrictions will close the Sandia and Mountainair ranger districts starting June 30.

Recreational areas including La Luz and all other Sandia district trails in the forest will close Monday morning. Officials say it is just too dangerous to let people go back into the dry brush.

Since vehicles can pose a danger, most roads through the district are also closed, with the exceptions of Forest Road 242, Forest Road 413 and Forest Road 333.

The Sandia tram, however, will stay open this summer, but once you get off the tram on the crest, you can't venture beyond the observation deck.

The Tijeras Pueblo trail will also stay open.
