The Diego Fire continues to spread and is producing smoke that now covers much of central New Mexico.  The area is very mountainous, filled with pine and open green meadows.

The heavy smoke cover is what is most striking about the Diego Fire right now. The smoke was visible miles before arriving into the perimeter of the fire.

Flames are sporadic. From an aerial perspective you can see the fire has been jumping around and not really burning in one concentrated area, but rather in several small areas.

There aren't many homes in the zone of the fire, but as you can see there are a few.

Ground fire crews were out this morning by 7:00 a.m. getting ready for another day battling the Diego Fire.
