Cheers filled the KiMo Theater in Downtown Albuquerque Tuesday afternoon as more than 500 soccer fans watched the USA face off against Belgium in the highly anticipated World Cup match.
The city hosted the watch party, which was free and open to the public.
"It beats being at home watching it on TV,” said Robert Gonzales. “This was a one of a kind thing."
Some soccer fans even left work early for the chance to watch the match on the big screen.
“We're calling it a late lunch," said Valarie Dodd.
Doors opened at 1 p.m., and there was free parking at the garage located at 5th and Copper.
“This is an exciting time for our country with our US national team advancing within the World Cup. We know Albuquerque residents are enthusiastic about supporting Team USA and we hope folks will join us to cheer them on,” said Mayor Berry.
Belgium won the match and will face Argentina or Switzerland in Brasilia on July 5.
